A Library Charity Gala was held on Thursday, June 27, 2013, sponsored by the Kysor family, for invited guests interested in supporting the daily operation of the S. W. Smith Library.  The well attended event was held at the VFW Veteran’s Home.  Dancing, dining, and donations were included in the festive Black and White themed event.  Credit is given to Kim Nelson, the Gala Coordinator, and Ed Vicic, the Gala Gourmet and Caterer.

The Pepke Generation Band provided big band music for the 135 guests for the effort to raise funds for the S.W. Smith Library’s daily operating costs. Members of the band hailed from Warren, Conneautville, Buffalo, and Fredonia, NY.  The Percussion player, Jack “Sizzling” Bacon, is a current member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.  Evening events included a limited live auction, silent auction, wine tasting provided by Allegheny Cellars Winery of Sheffield, PA, photography by Carrie and Jayson Przybyla from Roulette, PA, coffee cafĂ©’, and dessert shoppe.  To date, the event has raised $7200 for day to day library operations.  Anyone wishing to add to the total can call 558-6118 to assist in the library costs.  Each year the costs of operating the library increase despite efforts to control costs.  As well, the state government continues to decrease funding, placing a greater share of the burden on local sources of revenue.  Pam Fischer Photos
