“Team LEEK”,
a group of dedicated volunteers at Leek Hunting & Mountain Preserve will be
hosting Open House weekend, May 10-12.
LEEK’s
annual Open House provides donations and financial support for the Preserve,
which is used to support the camp’s operating costs and the programs that
provide recreational opportunities to wounded U.S. veterans such as guided
hunting trips.
The live
auction will take place at the preserve’s Open House weekend, during LEEK’s
Warrior Dinner on Friday May 10 at 6 p.m. Col Wilbur and his band will be playing live
on Friday between 5-7PM.
LEEK’s Open
House is open to the public and all will directly benefit the veteran programs
offered at the Preserve. All events are open to the public and those who wish
to attend LEEK’s Warrior Dinner Friday May 10, may purchase a ticket for $10 by
contacting Ed Fisher at 410-322-4610, Richard Getchel 814-331-1251, your local
representative or through the website (www.leekpreserve.org).
The schedule of events for LEEK’s Open House weekend begins Friday May
10 at 1 p.m. when the preserve opens to the public and those who wish to camp
for the weekend are welcome to set up. Visitors will be able to meet and mingle
with the group of “wounded warriors” who will be attending LEEK’s Spring
Gobbler Hunt and Open House at 5 p.m., which will be followed by an Opening
Ceremony and dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets for Friday night’s dinner are only $10
and all proceeds benefit LEEK. Those interested in purchasing tickets can
contact Ed Fisher at 410-322-4610. During and after dinner there will be a live
auction featuring firearms, hunting gear, art, a charter fishing trip, handmade
goods and much more.
Saturday morning’s activities will begin with a continental breakfast
at the preserve, provided by the Boy Scouts of Millport Troop 558. Registration
for a benefit motorcycle run sponsored by the American Eagles will also take
place at the preserve from 9-11:30 a.m. at which time an Opening Ceremony will
take place. At noon there will be a Wall of Heroes dedication and at 12:30 the
motorcycle ride will begin. There is a $500 grand prize for the winner of the
motorcycle run. From 1-3 p.m. LEEK will host an adult and youth turkey shoot
($10 registration fee and cash prizes), and other activities and games for the
entire family. At 5:30 p.m. the camp will host a Closing Ceremony, evening
awards and a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese Auction with dozens of items for
outdoor sports, home décor, art, and handmade items.
The camp will remain open to the
public throughout the day (11 a.m.-7 p.m.) on Saturday with vendor displays,
food and refreshments so visitors can tour the facilities and show support of
LEEK programs.
On Sunday May 12, LEEK will wrap up the weekend activities and
fundraising event with a Sunrise Service at 9 a.m. sponsored by Faith Bible
Church. The service is open to anyone who wishes to attend with LEEK staff,
members of the volunteer community, and the Wounded Warriors who are
participating in the Spring Gobbler Hunt.
This
event is the largest and most significant fundraising event hosted by LEEK and
provides a unique opportunity for the public to visit the Preserve and learn
about the programs and meet the Wounded Warriors who benefit from all the
Preserve offers.
