Rev. John H. Lapp, Loving Grandfather



John H. Lapp, 83, of Port Allegany, died Wednesday (September 30, 2015) at his home in Port Allegany.

He was born Feb. 27, 1932 in Gap, PA, a son of Moses and Rachel Blank Lapp. On Feb. 26, 1955, in Hartville, OH, he married Floy L. Zook, who survives.

Rev. Lapp attended Bible College, became a licensed minister in 1976 and was ordained in 1978. He served as Pastor of the Birch Grove Mennonite Church from 1976 till 1997. He also served as Interim Pastor for the Chenunda Creek Mennonite Church in Andover, NY from 2004 till 2008, and he then served as Interim Pastor at the Birch Grove Mennonite Church from 2008 until 2012. Mr. Lapp also owned and operated the Lapp Farm from 1959 until1993.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:

two daughters: Joy (Steve Ruby) Lapp and Ruth Ann Lapp, both of Mt. Pleasant, IA

four sons: Lester (Reletta) Lapp of Cyclone, PA; David (Cynthia) Lapp of Lowville, NY; Mark (Ingrid) Lapp of Port Allegany, PA and Paul (Melissa) Lapp of Akron, PA

13 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren

one brother: Omar (Sara) Lapp of Gap, PA

several nieces and nephews

Rev. Lapp was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Christian and Seth, and 3 sisters: Elizabeth, Sylvia, and Lena.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015, from 9 A.M. to Noon in the Birch Grove Mennonite Church, Two Mile Rd., Port Allegany, PA, where funeral services will follow visitation and begin at noon, with the Rev. Dale Detwieler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Annin Creek Cemetery, Port Allegany.
