Police Report 10/27 - 11/02

Port Allegany Police were asked for deal with custody squabbles, a fender bender, an apparent attempted break-in using a baseball bat, checking out a suicide, a stolen pumpkin and other matters in the week that began Monday, October 27.

Last Monday at 8:30 a.m. Chief Dave Distrola received a complaint from a parent of a 17-year-old juvenile who was said to have been chased by some other girls on the Square. The alleged victim of the chasing was not interested in having the police involved.

At 10:45 a.m. Distrola received a report that some keys had been lost. The owner had placed them on top of the car and driven off. It was believed that they had slid off somewhere along the way.

At 4:33 p.m. Officer Adam Dickerson was dispatched to 16 East Ransome Street where a burglary was reported. The resident said that Geromia Schoonover had attempted to break into the apartment using a baseball bat. Dickerson filed charges of criminal attempted burglary, criminal mischief and summary charges. Schoonover turned himself in Tuesday.

At 6:11 p.m. Dickerson received a complaint of a trespass by motor vehicle at 217 East Mill Street. The caller identified the driver and said that the vehicle had been driven through her yard to avoid construction, and had almost hit a six-year-old child. Dickerson said charges may be filed upon completion of the investigation.

At 6:45 p.m. Dickerson responded to 510 North Main Street for a report of a suicidal female. The person was transported by ambulance to Bradford Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

Tuesday at 9 a.m. Distrola escorted Geromia Schoonover to the office of Magisterial District Judge William Todd for arraignment. Schoonover was released on unsecured bail.

At 11:18 a.m. Distrola was dispatched to an East Maple Street residence for a report of a suicide, which he confirmed. The investigation is complete.

Last Wednesday at 10:54 a.m. Distrola received a complaint of a scam in which a caller had been selling an item on pennswoods.net, and sent an email from Colorado claiming that the message was from PayPal and directing that the customer send money by Western Union to cover shipping. The identity of the scammer could not be established.

At 11:25 a.m. Distrola responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 6 and Route 155 South. A Toyota operated by Elizabeth Thomas, age 76, of Port Allegany, was eastbound on Route 6 when it failed to negotiate a turn onto Route 155 South. The Thomas vehicle veered across the center line and struck a 2013 Honda operated by Catherine Weese, age 70, of Emporium. Weese was stopped at the Stop sign in the Route 155 lane. Neither driver was injured. Both vehicles received minor damage but were drivable.

At 12:10 p.m. Distrola was called to the Port Allegany Elementary School for a report that a juvenile under the age of 10 was found to have suspected marijuana in a bag used to return books to the library. Investigation revealed that the juvenile did not know the marijuana was in the bag. A parent was notified, and that person indicated this may be an attempt to thwart a custody action.

At 1:12 p.m. Distrola received a report that a prize pumpkin had been stolen from an East Arnold Avenue residence. Apparently the pumpkin was returned later.

At 6 p.m. Officer Tony Tanner spoke with Cub Scouts about Halloween safety and refraining from use of drugs and alcohol.

Thursday at 1:33 p.m. Distrola was contacted by the victim of a scam reported Wednesday with a request to contact Western Union. Contact was made, but the company would not provide the requested information. Many scams request that money be sent through Western Union because there is no way to track the transaction. The recipient can pick up the money at any Western Union location.

Friday at 8 a.m. Officer Kyle Day unlocked a motor vehicle for an operator at the high school.

At 8 p.m. Officers Tanner and Colin Strawcutter were contacted about a violation of a custody order. The caller did not indicate that the child was in danger. The caller was advised to contact an attorney.

At 9:53 p.m. an officer assisted a motorist with a vehicle lock-out at Sheetz.

At 11:18 p.m. An officer discovered two female juveniles out after curfew near the high school. They were released to their parents and warned concerning curfew violations.

Saturday at 5 a.m. an officer was dispatched to a Benton Avenue address to assist ambulance personnel with a call involving an apparent mental health issue.

Saturday at 9 a.m. Day was dispatched to a Benton Avenue residence to assist ambulance personnel with a call concerning someone with an apparent mental health issue. The subject refused treatment.

At 2 p.m. Day was contacted concerning child custody issues at a Ransome Street residence. The caller was advised to contact McKean County Children and Youth Services.

Sunday at 2:30 a.m. Dickerson responded to the Sheetz parking lot for a report of damage to a light pole. Investigation is ongoing.

At 3 a.m. Dickerson received a report that a man was lying in the road on Route 6 near the ambulance building. He was unable to locate the subject.

Clarification: In the Police Report of two weeks ago there was a reference to a domestic conflict outdoors in a Pearl Street neighborhood, and 68 Pearl Street was mentioned. Residents of that address have stated that they were not involved in that incident.
